This position is located in: Government Information & Maps Department, Shields Library and is represented by a union. Working hours: M-F, 8-5.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.

The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more information about the General Library see http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu.

Responsibilities:

Receive serial issues in all formats and claim non-receipt of expected materials, reconciling discrepancies in online files, corresponding with vendors and/or agencies as needed by email, phone, letter, or fax. Copy catalog federal depository monographs and create and maintain MARC holdings and item records. Participate in routine maintenance projects. Retrospectively convert government documents. Create local call numbers utilizing the Superintendent of Documents, California Documents, and local classification schemes. Provide assistance to patrons at public service desks, answering directional and information questions and referring more complex questions. Serve independently at reference desk during periods of low use.

Requirements:

Knowledge of acquisitions functions such as receiving, claiming, and verifying invoices for payment preferred. Ability to work accurately with detail, make comparisons and perceive differences. Experience using databases to enter and retrieve information and ability to work in a rapidly changing computer environment. Knowledge of integrated library system to input, search and interpret data helpful. Familiarity with OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, MARC21 Standards for Holdings, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and LC Rules Interpretations, preferred. Familiarity in ascertaining bibliographic relationships among serials, monographs, and series to catalog bibliographic records helpful. Knowledge of the Internet to search for and interpret information. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral/written instructions. Organizational skills to meet departmental standards and priorities, while accommodating a fluctuating workflow. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people, including students, academic and non-academic staff and the public. Knowledge of PC operation and Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel).

Physical Requirements:
Position requires lifting up to 10 pounds. Work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
