Evaluate and revise selected bibliographic records supplied by other libraries through national and international bibliographic databases. Catalog using marginal bibliographic copy in specialized subject areas; resolve problems arising in the performance of the listed cataloging duties; work on special projects.

Requirements

Knowledge of cataloging functions and procedures. Academic library cataloging preferred. Decision making and problem solving skills. Knowledge of online databases, e.g. MELVYL catalog, or other online catalog, to do bibliographic searching. Knowledge of an integrated library system and its catalog module to provide operational support. Skill in recognizing and resolving discrepancies. Knowledge of PC operation, software usage (wordprocessing, spreadsheets, databases). Excellent typing and proofreading skills. Depending upon the shift, this position is responsible for opening and closing the library and overall security of the building (approximately 37,600 sq. ft.) and its collection.   • Research current trends in the in the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) field for the purpose of reviewing and analyzing all proposed publications and audiovisual materials for acquisition and inclusion into the library collection; research and review principles and techniques in the field of library science for purposes of application to collection maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed policies and procedures for the cataloging of all library publications and materials; develop and apply appropriate circulation procedures for all library materials disseminated within the department, to public and private organizations, and to individual library patrons from the general public.
  • Process and track journals using library databases and maintain tracking systems for library materials including receiving, routing and issuing notifications on overdue loans.
  • Research and analyze on-line databases, Internet, and other specialized information for the purpose of overseeing and providing reference and research services for the Library and its patrons.
  • Collect and analyze data for reports on reference, research, and library usage statistics.
  • Responsible for the continuous update of annual catalogs.
  • Instruct and assist patrons in the use of catalogs and reference sources, and accessing the LibraryNet database.
  • Prepare, oversee and monitor journal subscription services; responsible for preparing Request for Quotes, purchase orders, and tracking invoices.
  • Monitor contracts for student assistance and Technical Assistance for prevention services.
  • Attend quarterly Prevention Committee meetings; record major points discussed by the members; summarize main points and any action items for ADP; and prepare reports for the Prevention Assistant Deputy Director

This position is located in: Shields Library - Instruction Services and is represented by a union. This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. Responsibilities
Working under general supervision as a member of the General Library’s Instruction Services Department, this position creates illustrative materials in print and web mediums and provides graphic art support to all General Library departments. Communicates with library department heads about their graphic needs and is responsible for using creative judgment/vision to interpret the design needs of the project which may relate to illustrations, exhibits, posters, web pages or library signage. Responsible for establishing the design style, color treatment, and materials to be used in the project and for the accuracy of the final product. Working in a PC environment, determines project deadlines and budget requirements within budgetary guidelines. Supervises student graphic assistants. Responsible for backing up files, archiving projects and ordering graphic supplies.

Requirements
Demonstrated skills in graphic design and graphic art techniques, color, paper, and printing techniques. Strong background in graphic design principles, procedures, and techniques, including experience designing printed and electronic layouts that effectively integrate graphics and text. Skill to conceptualize designs and publications. Skill and ability to understand the purpose of the graphic project and to use one’s creative abilities and knowledge of illustrative techniques to uniquely design a new illustration, a new exhibit, or a new web page, etc. Demonstrated computer skills to produce a wide variety of desktop publishing and graphic work with programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe CS2 and Microsoft Office applications. Experience working with Web browser applications and web pages. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload and ability to maintain composure under heavy workload, conflicting priorities and other demands to meet deadlines. Excellent proofreading skills and a high level of accuracy in the production of the product (both text and illustrations). Skill to use traditional graphic art tools and media, such as pens, vinyl letters, etc. Skill to scan and manipulate photo images. Skills to develop creative solutions to general problems, attempt unfamiliar projects or assignments, and respond with flexibility to requests for assistance, including scheduling and coordinating large projects and special events information. Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills and an ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Ability to exercise diplomacy when dealing with others and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse team environment. Ability to train and direct work of student assistants.
