Sacramento Public Library - Branch Services Manager

Position:
Branch Services Manager, Sacramento Public Library
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Public Services, the Branch Services Manager organizes and directs the operations of 9 of the 27 branch libraries throughout the City and County of Sacramento. Branches in the region vary in size and staffing levels.

The successful Branch Services Manager will be a creative leader able to effectively manage relationships within and outside the library, strengthen program services and continue to develop a vibrant presence for the library in each community.

Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an energetic, forward-thinking leader with a clear vision for the future. He or she must be able to define, articulate and champion the evolving role the public library should play in meeting the expectations of its diverse communities. The Library is looking for a leader who is passionate about his or her work, committed to providing exceptional customer service and willing to partner with managers, staff, community organizations and other public agencies in developing a strong presence and innovative programs for the Library.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary for this position is $80,000 but may be higher depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The position falls within a Management Broadband and movement within the Broadband is based on performance and job responsibility.

Benefits include: 23 days of Personal Time Off (a combination of vacation and sick leave); 12 paid holidays; 60 hours of management leave time per year; health, dental, vision and $50,000 Library paid life insurance; California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) 2% at 55 with full Library paid contribution; vehicle allowance; free downtown parking; section 401(a) deferred compensation plan with 4% Library match; flexible spending account for unreimbursed medical and dependent care expenses; professional development reimbursement up to $1,000; and Library paid long term disability.

Position summary: Instructional Assignment Under the supervision of the area dean, and in collaboration with the other librarians, the Public Services Librarian shall:
.provide reference and information services to students and staff;
. provide library instruction in a variety of settings and formats;
. maintain up-to-date instruction materials for print and on-line library resources;
. select materials in subject areas for print, media, and digital collections;

Depending on interests and qualifications, the successful job candidate may:
. take the lead in coordinating and delivering library instruction;
. be involved in developing and coordinating information competency programs for students and faculty;
. instruct students in credit courses;
. be involved in developing and maintaining web resources; and,
. be involved in developing and coordinating services to the Outreach Centers and Distance Education.

These assignments may be reallocated periodically. Evening and/or weekend hours may be part of the assignment. In addition, the Public Services Librarian shall serve on area, college, and district committees and assume other responsibilities as assigned.

General responsibilities
The faculty member shall also be responsible for the following: library and/or teaching assignments under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular specialty field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum and articulation studies; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

Minimum qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution in Library Science or Library and Information Science completed by August 21, 2008;
OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in Library Science;
OR, the equivalent.

Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent" provision must provide details and explain how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degrees listed above.

2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Salary range:
$43,976 to $72,907 annually
