JOB SUMMARY:
The Dudley Knox Library, Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), located in Monterey, California, is seeking an energetic, innovative, and motivated individual to fill a new senior leadership position supervising and managing its Library Systems and Metadata Services departments. This position will: redefine the roles
of traditional library systems and cataloging departments; develop innovative programs and initiatives; provide guidance on the pursuit of open source solutions for library discovery and delivery systems; and implement emerging standards and best practices in a changing library landscape. Reporting to the University Librarian, this individual is a key member of the Library management team and will provide significant leadership and guidance for the growth and development of library systems, web services, and metadata operations in order to meet the requirements of NPS graduate education and research
programs.

This position requires an accomplished manager with strong academic credentials; a technical foundation in applied library sciences principles and practices; and demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and collaboration across discrete departments within the Library and with outside constituents. The ideal
candidate will have recent experience providing leadership and managing risk with respect to information resource discovery and delivery systems.

Required: A master's degree from an ALA accredited library science program (or equivalent); three to five years of recent and progressively higher academic library management and supervisory experience. Highly desirable: practical technical experience in library systems operations, including integrated library systems and web services, as well as demonstrated background in traditional technical services operations such as acquisitions, cataloging, and serials.

This is a US federal civil service position. United States citizenship and the ability to obtain and retain a SECRET security clearance are required. Moving expenses may be authorized.

The mission of the Dudley Knox Library is to provide the Naval Postgraduate School and the broader defense and security communities with an information rich environment supporting academic and research pursuits. http://www.nps.edu/Library/
