This position is located in: Shields Library - Acquisitions Unit and is represented by a union. Working hours: M-F between 7:30 and 5:00.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.

The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more information about the General Library see http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu.

Responsibilities:

This lead position is responsible for managing approval plan acquisitions for Health Sciences and other approval and standing order plans in the Sciences, including the domestic plans for Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences and Engineering. Extensive use of one or more vendor databases in performing increasingly automated acquisitions routines. Assures that expectations for timeliness and quality assurance are met in handling approval material and ensures that effective communication is maintained with subject librarians, other library staff and vendors. Receives and processes approval shipments, routing as needed for selector review, enters invoices in ILS and forwards to Accounting. Participates in regular unit management meetings.

Requirements:

Demonstrated experience working in a library setting; knowledge of both technical services and public service expectations and priorities. Skills to understand and correctly implement complex library/departmental/unit policies and procedures, to interpret data and to solve problems independently. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact effectively and tactfully with vendor representatives and co-workers by phone, e-mail, fax, and in person. Ability to adapt to changing deadlines, procedures and fluctuating workloads. Skills to use various online databases including OCLC, local ILS, vendor databases, and Library of Congress MARC documentation. Knowledge of vendor and publisher invoicing practices to accurately review accounts, identify and resolve problems. Working knowledge of MARC bibliographic formats to identify and verify correct bibliographic records. Excellent editing and proofreading skills; excellent attention to detail; ability to quickly and accurately identify, compare, and perceive differences in data. Clerical and math skills to include accurate typing, use of keyboard, maintaining files (electronic and paper) and statistics.

Special Conditions of Employment:
Restricted food/drink in work area. Work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements:
Move and lift books weighing up to 10 pounds; unpack boxed materials and maneuver loaded book trucks; reach shelves 5" to 82" in height.
