DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Technical Library at Sandia/California provides quality information products and services that support the research needs of Sandia engineers, scientists, and staff. Using the most current technology and employee expertise, the Technical Library acquires, organizes, manages, and delivers a variety of information resources and systems. We primarily serve the CA site
population of approximately 900 employees. We also have significant interface with the Technical Library at Sandia’s main site in Albuquerque, NM, through shared databases, catalogs, online subscriptions, and services.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We seek an innovative, highly motivated, energetic, and forward-thinking librarian to play a critical role in the Technical Library’s efforts to become a fully functional library of the future. The librarian will be actively engaged in the ground-floor development discussions regarding how to use and deploy technology as a research and reporting tool to meet the needs of
Sandia’s researchers and management. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute in all aspects of library science activities, including work in acquisitions, cataloging and metadata control, collection and e-resource management, document delivery, information technology, and reference. Specific activities will include taking Sandia library services to a new level and providing target customers with a technology-enabled environment for advanced research and information management.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires an M.S. degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school and at least three years of experience in a scientific or technical library. Applicants must have knowledge and/or experience with all aspects of library science, including acquisitions, cataloging and metadata control, collection management, document delivery, electronic resources, and
reference. Other requirements include (1) a proven ability to immediately perform online and manual literature searching and reference; (2) a strong focus in digital librarianship; (3) a keen interest and desire to work with the often-changing specialized library environment; (4) teamwork and leadership capabilities; (5) strong interpersonal and communication skills; (6) the
ability to take initiative and be self-directed, (7) a strong service orientation toward customers and coworkers; (8) demonstrated project-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills; and (9) an aptitude for complex and detailed work.

Desired qualifications include (1) knowledge of and experience with the Dynix Horizon library automation system and ILLiad interlibrary loan program; (2) a professional understanding of taxonomies, ontologies and content management systems; (3) experience with making information access as intuitive as possible for “do-it-myself” researchers; (4) familiarity with
information push technologies, such as intelligent agents; (5) an understanding of collection management practices related to scientific, technical, and report literature; and (6) coursework or a degree in the hard sciences or computer science.

Candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance for this position. To obtain a security clearance, U.S. citizenship is required.
