Catalog Librarian

The Sacramento County Public Law Library is seeking a Catalog Librarian to become a full-time member of the library's support services team. To find more information about the library’s programs and services visit www.saclaw.org.

Primary Duties:
The Catalog Librarian provides original, adjusted and copy cataloging and bibliographic control for a range of print and non-print materials in various formats, as well as being responsible for Authority and quality control. Duties include providing lead direction and assistance to team members with cataloging and classifying library resources. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Support Services and works collaboratively with Technical Services Team members to ensure all collection maintenance responsibilities are handled appropriately. Other duties include assisting with ILS administration, documenting work procedures and reference.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 ALA accredited Library Masters degree
 Experience with MARC, AACR2R, LCSH, LC Classification and OCLC Connexion
 Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging national cataloging standards, including MARC, controlled vocabularies, RDA, FRBR, etc
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
 Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with solid attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
 Competency in working with a standard ILS
 Extensive computer skills and knowledge of standard MS Office Suite

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 Experience working with Horizon
 Law library experience
 Experience working with automated Acquisitions module
 Knowledge of non-MARC metadata formats, such as Dublin Core, EAD, Mets and MODS.
 Strong commitment to excellent customer service


SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting salary $59,543.07 ($4,961.92 monthly) - $62,520.22 ($5,210.02 monthly) depending on experience. An additional $987 per month may be used toward the library’s cafeteria plan benefits. Cafeteria options include choice of several health plans, dental plan, short-term disability, life and other insurance plans, out-of pocket medical and family care reimbursement, and cash back. CalPERS retirement plan includes 7% employee contribution, optional 457 deferred compensation plan, employer paid long-term disability, and rapid transit or parking subsidies. Continuing education and training. Paid holidays 14 days, vacation accrual first three years are 6.7 hours per month, sick leave accrual 10 hours per month.

Job Description:
The Organization - City of Roseville operates under the Council/Manager form of government with approximately 1100 regular employees and a 2009/2010 operating budget of $324 million. The Department - The Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department operates a variety of programs, services and facilities for the community. The Department currently maintains and operates three libraries, 61 developed parks, 175 acres of landscape area adjacent to roadways and neighborhoods, 4,100 acres of open space, two championship golf courses, two community centers, three swimming pool facilities, the Maidu Museum and 17 Adventure Club Child Care facilities.

The Library Division budget is approximately $3 million. The library continues to experience large growth in attendance and circulation and will manage library staffing patterns to enable all three libraries to operate efficiently and effectively. Library core services include adequately staffing to serve customers with check in/out, processing materials, answering questions and supporting computer technology. The library strives to grow the volunteer program to help with library daily tasks, programming and fundraising. Partnerships with the Library Board, Friends of the Roseville Library and Library Foundation will continue to play a key role in our success.

The Human Resources Department is accepting aplications for the position of City Librarian. The work schedule will vary Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A flex schedule may be available. Education and Experience
The City Librarian will possess a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university and have five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional public library management experience, including the supervision and development of professional employees. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.

About the Position - The City Librarian will plan, organize, direct and coordinate the activities of the Library Division within the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department. The duties of the City Librarian include, but are not limited to: develop and implement divisional goals, policies and procedures and the library strategic and technology plans; assess current and future trends for planning purposes; plan, organize and direct library activities including administrative, public, and technical services.

The successful candidate will also direct, oversee and participate in the development of the Library Division work plan, assign work activities, monitor work flow, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures. The City Librarian will develop and implement service levels, standards of service, staffing levels, and staff organization within the division; oversee the general development of the library’s collections and consistency of library operations. This position is also responsible to prepare the Library Division budget; assist in budget implementation; participate in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies and administer the approved budget. The City Librarian also recommends the appointment of personnel, will provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; implement disciplinary procedures as required; maintain discipline and high standards necessary for the efficient and professional operation of the division.

The City Librarian will also prepare and make presentations and recommendations to the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Director, City Manager, City Council, and the Library Board and represent the library to the Roseville Public Library Foundation, The Friends of the Roseville Library, various other community organizations and public agencies regarding library services and activities.

The City Librarian will also assist with projects related to constructing or renovating library facilities; oversee general maintenance of existing facilities and participate in identifying the need for new or expanded facilities to meet current and anticipated community use. This position will also assist staff in understanding the information needs of the community including information technology access methods and developing library programs that provide a broad range of library services for a diverse customer base. This also includes the marketing of library services (including website information and services available through the internet), and monitor various library publicity. Additionally, the candidate will identify funding sources for library services, including local, State, and Federal programs and grants and participate in a variety of fund-raising activities with community groups and/or business supporters. The City Librarian will oversee administration of such programs and use of funds received.

The City Librarian is also a visionary, responsible for monitoring emerging trends and issues as they relate to the division and implementation of division appropriate action plans.

Position Overview

The Runner is responsible for retrieving articles and book loans from an academic vendor library while ensuring turnaround and high quality standards are met. This position will report to our Document Delivery Operations Manager and will be located in Davis, CA.



Responsibilities

· Retrieve articles from journals/microfiche located in vendor library, while ensuring quality and turnaround objectives are met. This may also include retrieving articles from electronic sources including the internet.

· Reference order as needed from library bibliographic tools to determine correct call numbers and whether the journal/book is available.

· Provide detailed reasons for orders that are unable to be fulfilled.

· Check-out and return books loans to library.

· Return articles/books back to main office as needed.

· Perform other duties as requested.
