Pay Range: $4,219 - $5,653/month (DOQ)

Position:
The Sacramento Public Library Authority is accepting applications for Youth Services Librarians. These positions specialize in programming for either children, teens/young adults, or a combination of both, depending on the vacancy. The preferred candidates will have a demonstrated interest and/or experience in youth services librarian work.

We have an immediate opening for a children’s librarian at our Belle Cooledge branch. We will also be establishing an eligibility list for future youth services librarian openings that occur in the next 12 months.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university;
No experience necessary;
Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
This position will be required to work evenings or Saturdays/Sundays as needed.

The Selection Process:
The selection process will include a review of the application, resume and cover letter. The most qualified candidates will be invited to attend an oral interview. The examination may include, but is not limited to, the essential knowledge and abilities listed. First round interviews will be conducted vie teleconference for candidates from long distances. The application process is also part of the examination process. All submitted application materials will be reviewed and screened based on the necessary employment standards for the position.

Salary: $5,265.00 - $6,399.00

Job Description:Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Business Services, SSMII, the incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the Transportation Library in Sacramento. The incumbent will supervise the work of Senior Librarians and other employees. The incumbent also exercises functional responsibility over district library operations on a statewide basis and provides professional advice and assistance to them. Prepares annual budget requests, budget change proposals, and progress reports as required. Administers contracts for reference, cataloging, and interlibrary loan services, and journal subscriptions. Determines staff development needs and prepares training plan. Analyzes monthly statistics to review and maintain proper level of service to library users. The incumbent is responsible for the library automation and electronic dissemination of transportation information for long-term planning of library services. Approves all purchases for library materials and services. Prepares feasibility studies and other reports related to library services.
