These positions are located in: Shields Library - Serials Department and are represented by a union. Working hours: M-F, 8-5.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.
The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more information about the General Library see http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu.

Responsibilities
This position manipulates the library’s online database to provide an accurate inventory of the individual pieces held by the Library. Reviews bibliographic information associated with the pieces in hand to insure the record is correct and meets established guidelines. Records or updates location and general holdings information found in the online database to reflect correct information.

Requirements
Demonstrated skills reviewing, comparing and accurately recording detailed information. Skills inputting and retrieving information using online databases. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to verbally communicate detailed information in a collegial environment. Excellent keyboarding skills to edit, retrieve, and input online records. Ability to organize tasks to meet workload requirements and deadlines. Knowledge of library functions and procedures. Knowledge of technical services in an academic library, preferred. Knowledge of one or more of the following for bibliographic searching, editing, and inputting: a major bibliographic utility (such as OCLC); an integrated library system (such as Aleph); an online union list (such as Melvyl). Knowledge of cataloging concepts and practices preferred. Knowledge of serials and serials practices preferred.

Special Conditions of Employment
No smoking in the building. This position requires working in close proximity to others, with frequent interaction and interruptions; frequent movement within the department and to and from other departments/areas.

Physical Requirements
Frequent shelving/retrieval of books and materials (weighing up to 10 pounds onto shelving ranging from 5 inches to 85 inches high); movement of loaded book trucks (weighing up to 700 pounds) through congested work areas; operation of keyboard and computer equipment; communication in person, by telephone or e-mail. Interpret fine print and read CRT screens.
