Working hours: M-F, 8-5.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously. The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Head of the Workstation Support Unit, provide programming and computer support to all workstations and applicable servers in the University Library including its branch libraries. Configure and install/upgrade computer software and hardware, write detailed configuration documents, respond to requests for computer support from library employees and patrons, assist staff in performing basic computer operations in using various computer software, resolve computer and client/server related problems, provide assistance in the operation of library instruction facilities. Maintain and update library inventory database, assist library’s employees in development of database structures and customized programs for data manipulation.

Requirements
Skills to design, modify, code, test, debug and document systems using languages and scripting tools such as or similar to HTML, CSS, Javascript, VBScript, DOS Batch script, XML, MS Access. Ability to learn new programming or scripting technologies as needed. Demonstrated experience in a client/server environment (Windows 2000/2003) including knowledge of network principles and protocols, especially TCP/IP. Skills to develop scripts for remotely centralized software deployment. Skills to manage Windows domain controllers. Skills to configure and manage centralized client patching system. Demonstrated experience in computer hardware, specifically related to PC (compatible) workstations and servers, Macintosh, peripherals such as printers, document scanners, CD-ROM drives, bar code readers and decoders, and backup devices; demonstrated knowledge of communication (including wireless) devices such as NIC’s, transceivers, and modems. Demonstrated skills associated with set up and configuration of internal/external components for microcomputers. In depth knowledge of the wiring/connection scheme for each device as it relates to hosts, and/or to individual workstation equipment. Demonstrated diagnostic and problem analysis skills to effectively diagnose problems; evaluate options and implement proper corrective actions. Skills to apply diagnostic/debug procedures found in vendor technical manuals. Demonstrated experience with MS DOS, Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, and Mac OS. Demonstrated experience with advanced functions of current versions of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with E-Mail clients (including PINE), secure Telnet, secure FTP, cross platform web-browsers, and document delivery systems. Demonstrated knowledge of Symantec Ghost or comparable software. Demonstrated technical writing skills to develop hardware specifications and configuration documentation. Experience in service-oriented environments and strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide variety of individuals with varied levels of computer skills; ability to respond to questions in lay terms and to interpret technical information clearly and effectively. Demonstrated organizational skills to establish work priorities and simultaneously complete multiple tasks to meet required deadlines with frequent interruptions.

Special Conditions of Employment
Must be able to adjust schedule to meet emergency needs. Physical Requirements: This position requires operating and moving of computers and their peripheral equipment. Read computer printouts and CRT screens. Lift up to 40 pounds and handle laden carts.
