About the Position:
The Sacramento Public Library is building a new future and transforming the library into our community’s most valued resource. We are seeking a proven leader who will help create a new vision for the library and enhance community partnerships. The successful Deputy Library Director is a strong leader with proven skills in managing people, programs and budgets. The position consists of administrative and professional library work assisting in the direction of all library services of Sacramento Public Library, a joint powers authority. As a joint powers authority, Sacramento Public Library is an independent entity and is responsible for all administrative services, including but not limited to: Human Resources, Finance, Facilities, Information Technology, Payroll and contract negotiations. The Deputy Library Director works closely with the Library Director and other staff to ensure that the 27 branches and Central Library serve the ever-growing and changing needs of Sacramento County. The successful candidate will have experience in managing projects, grant writing and oversight, budget preparations, strategic planning and working with diverse groups of constituents.

Requirements:
• Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) School of Library Science;
AND
• Six years of experience in professional library work, including experience managing complex library projects, programs, and services, three years of which must have been in an administrative capacity.

Selection Process:
The selection process will include a review of the resume, cover letter and responses to the supplemental questions. The most qualified candidates will be invited to attend an oral interview. The examination may include, but is not limited to, the essential knowledge skills and abilities listed in the position description. Interviews may be conducted via teleconference or videoconference for candidates from long distances. The application process is also part of the examination process. All submitted application materials will be reviewed and screened based on the necessary employment standards for the position.
