Law Library Administrator - El Dorado County Law Library

The El Dorado County Law Library, located at 550 Main Street, Suite A, Placerville, CA 95667 530-621-6423, is currently seeking candidates for the position of full-time Law Library Administrator.

DEFINITION
The Law Library Administrator serves at the pleasure of the El Dorado County Law Library Board of Trustees and provides professional leadership in directing the operation of the County Law Library, and do all related work as directed by the Board of Trustees.

DUTIES may include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Plans and directs the operation of the County Law Library in accordance with policies and procedures authorized by the Board of Law Library Trustees and the Business and Professions code, Division 3, Chapter 5.
  • Provide directional reference assistance and service to library users.
  • Analyze library and user needs and makes recommendations to the Board.
  • Plan, develop, and conduct library tours.
  • Maintain serial collections.
  • Processing of monthly accounts payable, including spreadsheet application.
  • Preparation of Annual Report.
  • Operate equipment including online and CD-ROM legal research programs, FAX, PC,
  • Typewriter, copy machine, security devises.
  • Handle routine correspondence.
  • Keep up to date on legal issues and law librarian ship.
  • Process and put away library materials.
  • Update library materials by filing, pocket parts, or other means of supplementation
  • Re-shelve books and other library materials.
  • Maintain the library and branch library electronic research equipment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION

Knowledge of:

  • Legal research, including CD-ROM and online services.
  • Management principles and practice.
  • Library purposes, organization.
  • Budget principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform automated bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
  • Windows based software, including Word and Excel.
  • Web page design and management.

Skill/Ability to:

  • Plan, direct and evaluate programs and activities.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate temporary staff.
  • Analyze and resolve problems.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Administer a budget.
  • Operate and instruct others in the use of computers, copy machines and other standard office equipment.
  • Alphabetical and library numbering system ability.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Education: Completion of a Library Sciences graduate program with emphasis in law librarianship or completion of an approved paralegal training program.

OR

Three years of experience researching and drafting a variety of legal documents preferable supplemented by course work in legal research and legal office practice may be substituted for the educational requirement.

AND

Three years professional library experience of professional, business management experience.
