Working hours: M-F 8-5.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.
The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more information about the General Library see http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu.

Responsibilities
Serve as a front line member of the Web Services Team, which is responsible for coding and maintenance of all library web pages. Evaluate web development requests and implement them in a consistent manner within the guidelines developed and agreed upon by WST. Emphasis is placed on secure, open, and accessible solutions generally implemented upon LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). Assists internal Systems Department projects by coding, debugging, and testing programs, and updates existing programs to support software and hardware upgrades.

Requirements
Reliable attention to detail with consistent follow through on long, involved projects. Effective time management skills to establish and adhere to schedules while balancing multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to follow oral or written instructions accurately and provide periodic status reports to supervisor. Ability to apply systems analysis and diagnostic concepts to analyze problems, then develop and evaluate potential solutions individually and as a member of a team. Experience using HTML, XML, XSL, CSS, RSS, and other data encoding formats. Demonstrated knowledge of web security pitfalls and secure coding techniques (e.g. XSS, SQL Injection). Knowledge and experience with procedural and object oriented programming in languages including at least; JavaScript, Perl, PHP, and Unix Shells. Java, C, Python a plus. Demonstrated experience in using advanced web development concepts to create, maintain, and design entire websites. Familiar with current web development standards for accessibility (e.g. Section 508, W3C WAI). Demonstrated experience with web development for maximum cross platform compatibility. Working knowledge and experience with relational databases (e.g. MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and query languages and midleware (e.g. SQL, Perl DBI, PHP DB). SQL required. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with MS Windows and UNIX-like operating systems. Skills working in a unix-based environment using utilities such as; awk, bash, chmod, CVS, make, sed, tar, vi. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with various digital image formats and applicable uses. Familiar with basic Apache web server configuration options. (e.g. Modules, redirects, aliases, virtual hosts) Ability to communicate and interpret technical information to non-technical staff, and to resolve problems or train users in new procedures and routines. Strong writing skills to create and maintain system and program documentation.

Special Conditions of Employment
Work in a non-smoking environment, must be able to adjust schedule to meet emergency need and other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements
This position requires operating and moving of computers and their peripheral equipment. Communicating in person and by telephone or email, reading computer printouts and CRT screens. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and handle laden carts. Operate keyboard equipment, read fine print, CRT screen and computer printouts.
