Humanities Librarian - UC Davis Job Opportunity

Humanities Librarian
Salary: $43,560 – $60,408 (Assistant Librarian II – Associate Librarian V)
(Appointment level and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications)

The Humanities and Social Sciences (H/SS) Department, located in the Peter J. Shields Library, University of California, Davis, seeks a dynamic and self-motivated librarian to provide effective reference, instruction and outreach services to a diverse campus community. The Humanities Librarian serves as the bibliographer for Literatures in English, Film Studies and the Performing Arts, developing and managing print and electronic collections to support campus research and instruction in assigned disciplines. With a team of nine H/SS bibliographers, the Humanities Librarian participates in creating new services and programs within an environment of rapidly changing information technologies, scholarly communication models and media resources.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of the H/SS Department, the Humanities Librarian conducts outreach services to the Departments of English, Theatre and Dance, and Film Studies, offers in-depth reference assistance and provides course integrated and course related instructional sessions. The librarian serves as subject specialist to the assigned disciplines, keeping abreast of evolving faculty and student information needs and selecting monographs, media and serials to support research and curricular initiatives. The Humanities Librarian also serves as a library liaison on issues related to course management software (SmartSite, based on Sakai, an open source learning management system), changing models of scholarly communication and access and delivery of audio and image resources. With other H/SS Librarians, the successful candidate provides traditional reference service within the department; some evening and weekend desk hours are required to provide general reference desk service. The librarian participates with other H/SS subject specialists to develop and implement new programs that enhance and expand humanities/social sciences information services. All H/SS subject specialists work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the UC system and the California Digital Library to cooperatively develop and manage print and electronic collections.

UC Davis librarians are expected to participate in library and system-wide conversations and planning, to be able to work comfortably in a collegial environment, and to be active professionally. Advancement in the Librarian series is based in part on professional contributions beyond the primary assignment; the successful candidate will show evidence or promise of such contributions.

Superior interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills and a strong public service commitment. Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues and library users in a complex, dynamic, multicultural, service-oriented environment.
