Public Services Outreach Librarian - Los Rios Community College District, Folsom Lake College

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction and Technology and in collaboration with the other librarians, the Public Services Outreach Librarian shall plan, develop, and coordinate Library Outreach and Distance Education Services, utilizing innovative web technologies and resources; provide reference and information services to students and staff; teach library instructions in a variety of settings and formats that may include credit courses; maintain up-to-date library instructional materials, in print and online; and select materials in subject areas for print and electronic collections.

Responsibilities
In addition, the Public Services Outreach Librarian shall also serve on department, college and/or district committees; meet with faculty, administrators and library staff on academic or professional matters; maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her profession; uphold standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; and fulfill other duties and responsibilities as outlined in the college faculty handbook. The assignment will include service at the Folsom Lake College main campus, Rancho Cordova Center and may include service at the El Dorado Center as well as day, evening and weekend hours.

Additional Responsibilities
-Experience as a Public Services Librarian in a community college environment or equivalent.
-Experience providing and developing library instruction in a variety of formats.
-Experience or interest in library services for distance education.
-Experience providing library outreach and marketing.
-Experience using existing and emerging technologies to enhance library services and instruction.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution in library science, library and information science completed by August 19, 2010; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in Library Science; OR, the equivalent. Note: Applicants applying under "the equivalent" provision must provide details and explain how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degrees listed above.

2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

Seems like students graduated from Community Colleges are also in demand. Though its a myth that education and exposure at Community Colleges is less compared to the four year institutes. Today, even graduates from Community colleges are carving a niche in life.
