Working hours: M-F between 7:30am and 5:00pm.

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general public. Applications from the general public and UCD/UCDHS employees will be considered simultaneously.
The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the Carlson Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library in Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more information about the General Library see http://www.lib.ucdavis.edu/.

Responsibilities
Support the instructional and research needs of UC Davis faculty, staff, and students by procuring materials not readily available in the Carlson Health Sciences Library’s (CHSL) collection through interlibrary loan and document delivery services, utilizing timely, cost-effective and efficient means and procedures to submit requests to potential lenders while ensuring compliance with the National ILL Code,UC ILL Code, contractual agreements and copyright guidelines. Support Library Circulation and Reserves Services by attending the public service desk, granting borrowing privileges, maintaining the patron database and maintaining and providing access to the reserves collection. Serve as unit liaison with faculty and academic support staff in the areas of reserves and copyright compliance. Perform or oversee all aspects of reserves processing.

Requirements
Experience working in a library public service setting. Knowledge of interlibrary loan, document delivery and circulation practices, codes, policies and procedures preferred. Academic library experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a diverse clientele with an emphasis on providing good customer service and promoting teamwork. Excellent bibliographic skills to retrieve and interpret records and to verify citations using online and printed resources and to determine appropriate tools for bibliographic checking. Creativity in searching and problem solving for the identification and location of obscure material. Ability to interpret, articulate and apply ILL/DDS, circulation and reference policies, procedures and practices. Knowledge and understanding of Digital Mellennium Copyright Act (DMCA), copyright guidelines and California Digital Library (CDL) negotiated access policies and their applications to interlibrary loan and document delivery services, including tracking and reporting responsibilities and procedures, preferred. Ability to organize a fluctuating work load with short-term deadlines, conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions. Flexibility to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and to adjust own workflow to assist in a back-up capacity during staffing shortages and periods of heavy workload. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to make comparisons and perceive differences. Skills to operate on-line systems, catalogs, other databases necessary for ILL and circulation operations, and to utilize Microsoft Office software programs and electronic communication media including e-mail, ftp, and the WWW. Excellent writing skills to compose reports, proposals, correspondence, memos, e-mail, and to update instructional manuals. Math skills to compile statistics, perform calculations, interpret and analyze data.

Special Conditions of Employment
No eating, drinking, or use of tobacco in the work area. No smoking in the building. Hours of work are scheduled Monday-Friday between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM. Staff scheduled at 7:30 AM may be responsible for opening the Library.

Physical Requirements
Ability to retrieve books from library stacks; maneuver loaded book truck and transport via elevator; lift books up to 15 pounds and pass across a counter lift boxes of paper weighing up to 30 pounds; reaching shelving and retrieving books from shelves 5" to 82" high in aisles 36" wide; manipulating packaging materials. Operate a keyboard for extended periods of time.
