Temporary Reference Librarian - UC Davis Job Opportunity

Temporary Reference Librarian (full-time six month appointment)
Salary: $40,008 – $44,736 (Assistant Librarian I - Assistant Librarian III)
(Appointment level and salary based on qualifications and experience)

The General Library at the University of California, Davis seeks an energetic and public-spirited individual to serve as a temporary reference librarian in the Humanities & Social Sciences Department, Peter J. Shields Library. The successful candidate must enjoy working with library users and serving as a team member with the Department’s seven librarians in delivering responsive information services to a diverse interdisciplinary university community.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of the Humanities & Social Sciences Department, the successful candidate will provide reference desk assistance with print and electronic resources and off desk reference consultations. Depending on experience and interest, the librarian might participate in the development and delivery of library instruction services or assist other librarians with library instruction sessions. Hours of service may include evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or its equivalent. Experience providing reference services in an academic or large public library. Familiarity with standard print and electronic arts, humanities, and social sciences reference tools and resources. Experience with using online catalogs and searching electronic databases, particularly in a web-based, networked environment. Excellent interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills and a strong public service commitment are required. Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues, students, faculty and staff in a rapidly changing, complex multicultural organization. Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Desired Qualifications
Successful experience providing reference and instruction services in an arts, humanities, and social sciences research library environment. Experience creating print and electronic reference and instruction guides or tutorials.

Benefits
Librarians are academic appointees. They earn 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per annum. The University has an excellent retirement system that is coordinated with Social Security.
